My Journey
Bridging the Caribbean to Global Academia
My fascination with language began in childhood and never left me. I started my teaching career at secondary schools in Guyana, where I taught English and Spanish and discovered a deep love for the work of helping students find their voice in another language.
That passion led me to Illinois State University, where I earned my M.A. in Spanish. I returned to Guyana and taught courses in Spanish language, linguistics, literature, and translation techniques at the University of Guyana — an experience that grounded me in the realities and richness of Caribbean higher education.
My journey continued at the University of Miami, where I earned my Ph.D. in Romance Studies, specializing in Latin American and Caribbean Literature and Culture. My education was never just about mastering grammar and literature, it was about understanding the layers of identity, history, and human connection that language carries.

Throughout my career, I have served as an educator, researcher, author, consultant, and translator. Each role has deepened my understanding of the challenges and opportunities within higher education. I have spent years developing curricula, designing language and literature assessments, refining linguistic strategies, and helping students and scholars strengthen both their oral communication and written expression.
Today, my work is driven by a commitment to linguistic excellence and integrity. I believe that every project, whether it's a translation, an academic paper, a language program redesign, or a professional development workshop deserves a nuanced approach that respects its cultural and intellectual context. My journey has always been about collaboration, and I continue to find the greatest fulfillment in working alongside clients to turn their complex ideas into clear, impactful realities.
Beyond Academia
My intellectual and professional life extends well beyond formal consulting. I am also a creative writer, cultural educator, and public advocate for cross-cultural understanding: commitments that inform everything I do as a consultant and editor.

On my YouTube channel, I share insights into cultural products and practices from around the world. The channel serves as a digital public education forum for promoting cross-cultural awareness, cultural appreciation, and interculturality— values that are at the heart of everything I do.
Creative Writing
As a self-published author, I have published a collection of poems, a book of short stories, and a gratitude journal. My writing keeps me connected to my Caribbean roots and reminds me, in a very personal way, of what is at stake when we work with someone’s words. Every project I take on as an editor is informed by my own experience as a writer: the importance of voice, intention, and the courage it takes to put your ideas on the page.
